Carcterización faneróptica de la población bovina criolla en la parroquia Nuevo Paraíso, del cantón Nangaritza, Provincia de Zamora Chinchipe.

This research work was carried out with the objective to do a phenotypic characterization of creole bovines in Nuevo Paraiso Parish, Nangaritza Canton, Zamora Chinchipe Province. To do this research 80 creole cattle were randomly selected on 9 farms. The variables are the following: hair color, color of hooves, mucosal color, shape of the hair, size of hair, form and presentation of the eyes, presence of horns, ears shape, and presence of locks of hair in specific areas. The predominant colors of hair were white, yellowish-white and muddy – looking (30, 24 and 18% respectively). The predominant color of the hoof was black. The predominant color of the mucous membranes was black (58,8%; P <0,001); Among the types of hair dominance the straight hair over curly hair (74 vs 26%). Leading animals with short hair to long hair (62 vs 38%). The presence of horns was predominated (78, 75%); Forms of ears that dominated were short ears (52,5%) followed by long ears (37.5%); Animals with locks of hair on the ears (88,75%); And animals that showed normal eyes (74%). It is concluded that the studied group of cattle has its own phenotypic characteristics, the group studied has differences from other groups of creoles cattle in the region and the country, but they are similar to the features reported for one of their possible ancestors.
