Zusammenfassung:The morpho-physiological characteristics of the guinea pig digestive system classify it as a post-gastric fermenter, capable of digesting high levels of fiber at the cecum level. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the effect of the inclusion of different levels of lignocellulose in the diet on the blood biochemistry of guinea pigs during the growth stage. Thirty-two type A1 guinea pigs were used, distributed in four treatments (diets): T1 0%, T2 3%, T3 8% and T4 12% lignocellulose, with 8 replicates in each; after 15 days the animals were sacrificed to take blood samples by direct puncture to the heart, placed in vacutainer tubes and taken to the Integral Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory of the UNL, for their corresponding analysis with the Erba Manheim kit for Microlab. The results showed no statistical difference between treatments, with average values of 135 mg/dl for glucose and 28.1 mg/dl for cholesterol. It is concluded that the inclusion of different levels of lignocellulose in guinea pig diets does not modify the serum profile of glucose and cholesterol, maintaining values within normal ranges for this species at this stage of development.
