| Crynodeb: | This paper addresses the evaluation of silage production as a sustainable feeding strategy for goats during drought periods, specifically in Garza Real Parish, Zapotillo Canton. Through a practical approach, surveys and training were conducted for local goat farmers, in order to identify the most effective practices in the silage process and evaluate their economic viability. The study showed that most goat farmers do not incorporate molasses in the silage process, which limits the nutritional value of the forage. Through training in the production of silage enriched with molasses, it was shown that this practice improves the quality of the forage and its acceptance by animals. Additionally, it was proven that silage production is economically viable, generating a profit of more than 40%, with low operating costs and high acceptance in the local market, especially during drought periods. The results were disseminated through talks aimed at goat farmers, in which the importance of optimizing silage practices and enriching it with molasses to improve the sustainability of the goat production system was emphasized. This research contributes to the adoption of more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices, providing a viable solution to the environmental and productive challenges faced by rural areas in times of food shortage. |
