Summary:The aim of this thesis is to determine the incidence and formalize the management of thyroid nodule in the outpatient " SOLCA " hospital of the city of Loja. As metodology, the research has a prospective , analytical, observation was conducted on 58 patients diagnosed with thyroid nodule in the outpatient unit of the Oncology Hospital SOLCA city of Loja. With the help of statistical package EPI INFO version 6.04 CD ATLANTA, describing the qualitative variables using percentages, confidence interval 95% held bar graphs ; for quantitative moving average , standard deviation and inferential analysis was used :Chi square test for difference of proportions , we worked with α = 1.96 error(p< 0.05 ). As a general objective were planted: To determine the incidence and management of thyroid nodule in the outpatient " SOLCA " Hospital of the city of Loja. While such specific objectives: identify patients with thyroid nodule; Evaluate the diagnostic performance of the ultrasound findings in relation to the result of thyroid cytology obtained by Fna; Determine the values of TSH in the patients with thyroid nodule; Learn about the usefulness of the Fna in thyroid Cancer detection; Identify the main criteria for surgical bypass Among the results , after pathological study , 36.4 % of smears were classified as benign , 35.1 % were suspicious for malignancy , 35.1 % were malignant and 2.6% were insufficient for diagnosis. 47 patients surgery was recommended. The main reasons for the indication for surgery was the nodular size (average size of the nodule derivative surgery: 3.3 ± 0.8 cm ) , and malignant or suspicious cytology for malignancy (with and without atypia ) . The main conclusion in the research conducted found no significant association between the concentrations of serum thyroid stimulating hormone in high limit or above the reference range with an increased risk of malignancy for a thyroid nodule, consistent with recent work.
