| Summary: | The producers of the Vilcabamba parish present several challenges when practicing agriculture. Therefore, the present work focuses on the identification and characterization of the main diseases affecting traditional sugarcane and coffee crops in the parish of Vilcabamba, province of Loja, through an exhaustive study, analyzing their symptoms, conditions that favor their presence and proposing improvements and a control plan. Thirty random surveys were applied to the families of the parish, and an exhaustive bibliographic review of the symptoms observed in the plants was carried out in scientific articles specialized in phytopathology and sugarcane and coffee crops. The data obtained were systematically organized and processed in Excel® software to form a database, then detailed profiles of the diseases affecting these crops were elaborated, with the information obtained an action plan was designed for the control of these diseases, which was discussed with farmers to ensure its relevance and applicability. The results indicate that this activity is led by the adult population between 30 and 50 years of age. The diseases that affect sugarcane crops are rust, leaf blight, and stunt disease, and those that affect coffee crops are rust, iron stain, anthracnose, pink disease, and rooster's eye. These diseases significantly reduce crop production and quality, which has a negative impact on the local economy. These diseases were characterized by profiling each disease and based on this, an action plan was proposed for the control of these pathogens, based on sustainable agricultural practices and farmer training, which was socialized with the surveyed producers. |
