| Summary: | Retinopathy of prematurity continues to be the greatest complication in the preterm newborn, if it is diagnosed early, it will have a better prognosis, based on that a descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study was performed, whose objective was to identify the risk factors that are associated with the Retinopathy of prematurity in neonates of Isidro Ayora Regional Hospital of Loja on the period from January to June 2015. In fact, 43 premature infants were studied; however, 30 of them accomplished the criteria of inclusion given in this study. The results determined 70% of incidence in Retinopathy of prematurity and the risk factors were: 80% were moderated-latest premature (32 -37 weeks), 77% of the patients had low weight (1501-2500 gr), 60% of the patients had two weeks of oxygen therapy with a median of 11 days. It was determined that there exist a direct relationship between retinopathy of prematurity and associated risk factors.
