| Shrnutí: | The consumption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is a problem that affects the general population. The purpose of the present study was to determine the prevalence of self-medication of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs according to age and sex, identifying the associated factors, and describe the most widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the inhabitants of El Valle neighborhood, in Loja during 2018. 285 people were selected as the sample and using the formula for the application of the survey. CauM-OVr Ramos 2017. Obtaining as results that the prevalence of self-medication is 22.51%, and that female aged between 18 to 27 years have a higher prevalence with 2,79% and males with 2,43%. The associated factors that led to self-medication are the difficulty of obtaining an appointment in the health services with a high prevalence of 77%, the lack of financial resources to pay for a prescription 74.8%, ease of acquiring medication 74.4%, knowledge of the use of medications 70.38%, lack of time to consult a doctor 67.7%. The most widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are paracetamol with 16.64% diclofenac 14.7%, acetylsalicylic acid 12.2%, ibuprofen 10.8%, naproxen 10.5% are consumed more frequently.
