| Sammanfattning: | Maize crop production is the main economic activity in the canton of Pindal, where mainly hybrid seeds with high yield potential are used; however, the yield levels recorded are low in relation to the yields specified for this type of seed. The environment can modify the phenological expression of maize, as well as the incorrect application of a fertilization plan can affect yield expression. The objective of this research was to evaluate the phenological and productive behavior of four hard yellow maize hybrids against the application of two levels of fertilization in the canton of Pindal. The trial was established in the Tacuri district (810 meters above sea level) where the following maize hybrids were planted: DK 7088, DK 7500, NS82 and SOMMA, under a completely randomized design with a bifactorial arrangement, with 8 treatments, product of the combination of genotypes and fertilization; the fertilization levels were UREA (N) and KIT ECUAQUIMICA (N-P-K). The results obtained show that phenological behavior was linked to the genotype, likewise, the variables that had an effect on yield expression were: phenological cycle duration with 90%, plant height with 72% and leaf area index (LAI) with 85% respectively. Hybrid NS82 obtained the highest yield level with 6350 kg/ha with the application of KIT (N-P-K), followed by hybrid 7500 with 5130 kg/ha. Hybrid 7088 showed a lower yield level in relation to these two hybrids with both fertilization levels, with an average yield of 3530 kg/ha. The hybrids show a better response with the correct delivery of nutrients based on an appropriate fertilization plan, as well as the influence of phenological variables according to the adaptability of the hybrid.
