In accordance with this objective, two specific objectives are established: to determine the effectiveness of the Know-Want-Learn (KWL) strategy, and to identify the students’ perceptions about the application of the Know-Want-Learn (KWL) strategy. In this study 24 tenth grade students participated. Furthermore, the research approach used was the mixed method based on action research, since quantitative and qualitative data were integrated. To this end, a pretest and a posttest were applied as quantitative instruments to measure students' knowledge of reading comprehension skills. On the other hand, the questionnaire and field notes served to collect qualitative data on the student's perceptions of the strategy used. The collected data were interpreted using descriptive statistics and analyzed through thematic analysis. Based on this, the results obtained demonstrated that students improved their reading comprehension skills in the aspects: predicting, inferring, summarizing and vocabulary. In addition to this, the results showed a positive impact of the KWL strategy on the students, since they demonstrated greater motivation when carrying out the activities and more interest in the learning process. Consequently, the researcher concluded that the KWL strategy had a positive effect on improving the students' reading comprehension skills, because it encouraged interactive participation and influenced their academic development. Por ello, es vital desarrollar habilidades de comprensión lectora que permitan entender y analizar textos en diversos contextos. De esta manera, el objetivo principal de esta investigación fue demostrar cómo el uso de la estrategia Saber-Querer-Aprender (KWL) mejora las habilidades de comprensión lectora en estudiantes de educación básica superior de una institución pública de la ciudad de Loja, año escolar 2023-2024. De acuerdo con este objetivo, se establecieron dos objetivos específicos: determinar la efectividad de la estrategia Saber-Querer-Aprender (KWL), e identificar las percepciones de los estudiantes sobre la aplicación de la estrategia Saber-Querer-Aprender (KWL). En este estudio participaron 24 estudiantes de décimo grado. Además, el enfoque de investigación utilizado fue el método mixto basado en la investigación acción, ya que se integraron datos cuantitativos y cualitativos. Para ello, se aplicó un pretest y un posttest como instrumentos cuantitativos para medir el conocimiento de los estudiantes sobre las habilidades de comprensión lectora. Por otra parte, el cuestionario y notas de campo sirvieron para recoger datos cualitativos sobre las percepciones del estudiante sobre la estrategia empleada. Los datos recogidos se interpretaron mediante estadística descriptiva y se analizaron a través de análisis temático. Basándose en esto, los resultados obtenidos demostraron que los estudiantes mejoraron sus habilidades de comprensión lectora en los aspectos: predecir, inferir, resumir y vocabulario. Además de esto, los resultados evidenciaron un impacto positivo de la estrategia KWL en los estudiantes, ya que demostraron mayor motivación al realizar las actividades y más interés en el proceso de aprendizaje. En consecuencia, el investigador concluyó que la estrategia KWL tuvo un efecto positivo en la mejora de las habilidades de comprensión lectora de los estudiantes, porque fomentó una participación interactiva e influyó en su desarrollo académico.
