Yhteenveto:Burns are skin lesions caused by various agents, originating alterations; however, the final prognosis depends on several factors. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with burns admitted to the Isidro Ayora General Hospital in Loja. This research corresponds to a retrospective study, with a nonexperimental design, quantitative approach, descriptive scope and cross-sectional cut, the study population was all patients admitted to the burn unit during the period 2021-2022; therefore, 127 participants were involved. A 10-item form was used for data collection; the information was obtained by means of a physical record and from the Integrated Health Care System; in addition, a formula was applied to calculate lethality. Regarding the results, the majority of burn cases occurred in the age group 1 to 12 years (46.46%), predominantly in males (61.42%) and in urban areas (79.53%); in addition, most of these incidents occurred at home (88.98%) and in the month of May (14.17%). The most common causal agent was the physical agent (92.91%), with a location on the right arm (37.01%). Second degree burns were the most frequent, affecting between 10 and 19% of the body surface in 47.24% of the cases, the severity level of the burns was moderate (56.69%) and the case fatality rate was 1.57%. In conclusion, burns represent a very common health problem, with significant variations in their epidemiological and clinical characteristics, as well as in the case fatality rate, which underlines the importance of implementing adequate safety measures
