Resumo:The present research was the propose to do the evaluation of visual acuity in children of “Monseñor Jorge Mosquera Barreiro” school of Guayzimi city, Nangaritza canton, Zamora Chinchipe province, 2015. The type of investigation used was observational, prospective, descriptive and bibliographic. The technique used was a survey with a questionnaire as an instrument that was applied to 187 children, in addition of observation with the guide for determination of visual acuity problems detected. Results of the study were: the predominant sex was the male population with 55.61%, the age group most important was 5 to 7 years with 55.08%, of mixed ethnicity with 93.04%, the residence was reported that urban with 88.23% and the middle socioeconomic status under with 42.24%. The visual problems determinated in the population according to the evaluation with the Snellen chart was 5.88% of children present some visual problem. According optometric examination it was determined that 36.36% of boys and 27.27% girls suffer from myopia, astigmatism with 9.09% evidenced in boys and girls, myopia plus astigmatism is the 9.09% in both sexes. According to the most affected age group with myopia it is 5 to 7 years with 54.55%, mixed race ethnicity myopia problem prevails with 36.36%, the same visual problem 54.55% predominates in the urban area, the socioeconomic condition corresponds to the under average with 36.36% with problems of myopia. An action plan executed with the delivery of glasses and eye care training in children. It is concluded that visual evaluation determined that 5.88% of children with problems, being myopia the predominate problem.
