Description
Summary:During the pregnancy period, it is needed to have a close monitoring of pregnant women by health personnel in order to help reduce the incidence of complications in all stages of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. Therefore, it is necessary for the health staff to be well trained, informed, and practice the guidelines prepared by the governing body of public health. According to the evidence to inform health policies, 7 out of 10 maternal deaths occurred in a health facility in 2009, and 208 maternal deaths were recorded, being Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) the leading cause of death (14.9%).1 Currently, maternal deaths occur during the first hours postpartum, thus, a research study was conducted to establish compliance with the procedures and tasks in the application of the Protocol of Maternal Care in Normal Birth, especially during the third stage of labor in pregnant women attended at the Obstetric Centre of Provincial Hospital Isidro Ayora of Loja. The main objective of this study was: To determine the level of compliance and proper management of the third stage of labor according to the protocols of Maternal and Child Care, Ministry of Health, implemented by Resident and Treating physicians of the department of gynecology and obstetrics of this Hospital. In order to achieve this goal, an observational and descriptive approach was taken, and the corresponding data was collected by filling a checklist provided by the observational assessment applied to treating physicians and residents of the corresponding area of study.
