| Тойм: | The objective of the research was to characterize morphologically the Creole pig in the cantons: Loja, Catamayo, Saraguro, Quilanga, Sozoranga, Calvas, Gonzanamá and Espíndola, located in the Central-East of the province of Loja. The sample size was forty-three specimens, thirty-five females and eight males, all of them older than twelve months of age. Therefore, files were prepared in which the data was recorded, using the study variables: zoometric measurements, zoometric indices, phaneroptic characteristics and Biotypes, each one with its respective indicators. The variables of the most prominent zoometric measurements were: live weight (LW) 66.49; head width (ACZ) 14.58 cm; head length (LCZ) 30.57 cm; ear length (LO) 19.47 cm; body length (LCOR) 90.72 cm; chest width (ADP) 23.23 cm; thoracic circumference (PTO) 94.93 cm; abdominal girth (PA) 100.16 cm. On the other hand, the most relevant zoometric indices were: cephalic Index (ICF) 47.70; relative chest depth (PRP) 54.28; body index (ICP) 95.57. Finally, the main phaneroptic characteristics such as the color of the coat, whose totality of animals considered in this study, presented a layer of black coloration. Likewise, the form of the coat that predominated is of the pig type, which was located in most places, both in hot climates and in cold climates. The presence of animals with curly fur is frequent in areas with low temperatures. In this study it is concluded that morphologically the Creole pigs of the Center-East of the Loja province, do not present a great difference with specimens studied in other localities such as Zapotillo, Pindal and Macara. The biotype identified for the Creole pig in the Center-East of the province of Loja presented the following characteristics: black coat, elongated trunk, pig-like coat, close to the body, elongated and drooping ear, split and pigmented hooves (black), 5 to 6 pairs of nipples, rolled tail. Key words: place of origin, zoometry, body conformation. |
