This study was carried out on women who attended the Health Center Nr. 2 in the City of Loja and who use hormonal contraceptives, the obtained information will be useful, since, its availability will result in users being able to take part in a more informed choice regarding the contraceptive method that best suits their requirements, avoiding dropout and preventing unplanned pregnancies. In this sense, it was sought to establish the prevalence of the use of hormonal contraceptive methods; identify the associated side effects; and relate age, education and, marital status with the choice of the contraceptive method. The research was descriptive, with a mixed, cross-sectional, and prospective approach, which universe was 617 women with a sample of 80 women users who met the inclusion criteria, applying a survey elaborated by the author showing that 14.9% had attended familiar planning, 18.4% presented headaches, while 0.8% manifested mood changes. In addition, no statistically significant relationship (p< 0.05) was found between age (p = 0.9376), education (p = 0.9831), and, marital status (p = 0.146) with the choice of contraceptive method, concluding that the factors mentioned above do not influence the decision of the users
