Тойм: | El Tambo parish in Catamayo canton, where 40% of the EAP is devoted to agriculture, was the site of the study. In spite of this, farmers have not yet been able to become independent from intermediaries and fully manage their own agricultural resources. In order to identify business opportunities in this sector, the purpose of this study was to analyze the sector. The research was developed under a mixed approach with an exploratory and descriptive character. To determine potential demand, the descriptive method was used to collect information from 38 farmers and a sample of 369 families in Catamayo by using survey and direct observation techniques. The results revealed that the main agricultural products are maize, mango, cassava, plantain, and orange. Forty-two percent of agricultural production is destined for sale, 37% for consumption and sale, and 21% only for consumption, highlighting the commercial orientation of the products. Since a large amount of tomatoes, cassavas and mangoes are wasted, business options such as tomato cosmetic cream, cassava soap, and mango essential oil were presented to the demanders, resulting in 88,501 units of cassava soap being demanded annually. Of the tomato cosmetic cream 21,377 units per year, and of the mango essential oil 24,449 units per year. This suggests that microenterprises can be created. Farmers would benefit from having a single buyer for their crops, saving time, resources and salvaging unsold food. As a result of the development of these enterprises, the parish will have the opportunity to benefit from local agricultural resources. This is an opportunity to promote microenterprise growth, train producers in new technologies while conserving agricultural resources, which are key factors for the development of El Tambo and Catamayo. |
