Opis
Izvleček:Green areas are vital for environmental sustainability, human wellbeing and the improvement of the urban environment, and their preservation and protection is essential to guarantee a healthy future for urban ecosystems. In the city of Loja there are green areas that contribute to environmental quality and provide services for the well-being and recreation of citizens. This research is focused on generating information on the functions provided by forest species in the Orillas del Zamora Ecological Trail in the city of Loja, from the characterization of the floristic composition, structure of forest species and propose technical alternatives for the management, conservation and enrichment of the trail. A forest census was carried out to determine the floristic composition and structural parameters such as relative density, relative dominance and the simplified importance value index, diameter and vertical structure. Next, in order to know the technical criteria regarding the functions and importance of the species in the green areas, interviews were conducted with experts using the “Snowball” technique. As a result of the study, 4784 trees belonging to 22 botanical families were recorded, grouped into 31 genera and 35 species. The families with the greatest diversity were Fabaceae, Myrtaceae and Mimosaceae. The most relevant functions of the forest species that contribute to the green areas were interactions with fauna species, air regulation and soil protection. Therefore, the green areas of the city of Loja are an important part of the urban landscape and are valued for their environmental, aesthetic and public health services, which is why the municipality, based on its competencies, has been working permanently on the protection and expansion of urban trees to contribute to human well-being and environmental sustainability. However, it is of utmost importance to improve the management of green areas, so this study proposes an enrichment and conservation management plan for the population.
