The aim of this research was to characterize sexual harassment in students at the Universidad Nacional de Loja (UNL). It is a study with a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach. The population corresponds to 447 students of both modalities who confirmed the presence of harassment situations in university spaces. The information was collected through an instrument called "Sexual harassment in higher education institutions (ASIES)", which evaluates sociodemographic characteristics, the presence of sexual harassment through 21 situations and changes in their daily and academic lives. In terms of socio-demographic characteristics, women stand out (81%), who come from the urban area (87%), belonging to the middle social class (43%) and of mestizo ethnicity (98%); in addition, 36% perceived verbal harassment 1 to 3 times last year, being the guilty person another student (56%). Among the most frequent academic and social effects was identified fatigue or exhaustion (17%), difficulty concentrating in classes (15%), nerves and anxiety (22.9%), and problems with relaxation (25%). In this way, it is concluded that the UNL evidences the existence of sexual harassment in students, prevailing verbal harassment experienced more often by women, originated by their university colleagues, identifying psychosocial aspects by ethnicity, sex, marital status, socioeconomic status, nerves, tiredness, difficulty concentrating and problems relaxing, showing the negative effects caused by the experience of sexual harassment
