| Summary: | There are factors that predispose students to suffer from migraine, which manifests episodically and is characterized by headaches of medium and high intensity, accompanied by nausea, hypersensitivity to light and odors, which hinders the development of educational work. For this reason, a quantitative, descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional cohort study was developed with the objective of determining the prevalence and factors associated with migraine in students of seventh, eighth and ninth cycle of the Medical Career of the National University of Loja during the period October 2019- March 2020 obtaining as results: 17% prevalence of migraine, 79.31% (n=138) of the students presented an age range of 21 to 25 years and 1.72% (n=3) ages of 36 and older; the female sex predominated with 66.09% (n=115) in relation to the male sex.The risk factors for developing migraine in the students were hormonal contraceptive use, insomnia, academic stress, alcohol consumption, smoking, not eating breakfast before going to class, a diet rich in fats and dairy products and a high consumption of canned foods; a statistically significant relationship was found between academic stress and migraine with a value of p = 0.000; not eating breakfast and migraine with a value of p = 0.0003 |
