Opis
Sažetak:Inflation as the general rise in prices at a given time, highlights the importance in the purchasing power of the agents of an economy; in Ecuador, for 2021 the rate of inflation stood at 0.13%, being a value that causes alert because it is below the goal that most economies seek to achieve, which is 2%. The general objective of the research is to evaluate the effect of aggregate demand on inflation in Ecuador for the period 1972 - 2019, using econometric techniques. For this purpose, the databases of the World Bank (2021) and the Konjunkturforschungsstelle (KOF, 2021) (This German word means: Economic cycle research institute); for the study, also a vector autoregressive model (VAR) and the Granger causality test are used. The results show that there is a long-term relationship between inflation and aggregate demand in Ecuador, however, there isn’t causality between these variables; likewise, there is bidirectional causality between aggregate demand and dollarization, which will also influence the level of inflation. Therefore, economic policy makers should properly control demand and generate a stable and productive environment to avoid inflationary or deflationary processes; in the same way, it will be convenient to strengthen dollarization for welfare of the country.
