| Sumari: | Early childhood is characterized by the constant experimentation of the environment in which children develop, putting everything in their mouths and neglecting hygiene measures; therefore, it is common the presence of diseases at this stage of development, because their immune system is not fully perfected to fight against certain infections. Within this context, the present research aimed to characterize the pediatric population that has been attended in the health centers of the Huaquillas canton during the year 2021. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study, whose population consisted of 240 children aged 0 to 5 years, who were treated for morbidity in the Hospital and Health Center Type A corresponding to the aforementioned canton. The information was obtained from the database of the Health Care Registration Platform (PRAS System) corresponding to this health center, which was provided to the PROSALUD - FRONTERA SUR PROJECT, for which we worked during the months of JulyAugust 2022 for the documentary review. The most relevant results of this research allowed us to identify that 75,4% of pediatric patients corresponded to the 0 to 2 years old group (breastfeeding stage), 57,9% were male, regarding prevalent diseases 17,1% presented rhinopharyngitis and 11,7% gastroenteritis and parasitosis; therefore, it was concluded that respiratory and digestive diseases continue affecting children more frequently |
