Relación de lactancia materna y el estado nutricional en niños de 0 a 6 meses de edad atendidos en el Subcentro de Salud N° 2 de la ciudad de Loja.

It is a priority to know the relationship between breastfeeding and children’s nutritional status under six months, OMS recommends that during the first six months the child receives exclusive breastfeeding for the benefits it provides, however, today even the lack of practice in the same or even its suspension in early stages of life is evident. A study was conducted aimed at identifying children from 0 to 6 months of age who received exclusive breastfeeding, mixed feeding and artificial feeding attending the No 2 Health Centre, the children’s nutritional status was determined and the relationship became to known between breastfeeding and children’s nutritional status. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study whose universe consisted of 530 children aged 0 to 6 months of age, the information was obtained from surveys of parents, the SIVAN program, and medical records. The results showed that of the 320 children served who meet the inclusion criteria 55% receive mixed feeding, exclusive breastfeeding 42%, and 3% formula. The 136 children’s nutritional status who are exclusively breastfed 75% are underweight, 18% overweight and 7% underweight, while those receiving mixed feeding corresponding to 176, 68% have normal weight 32 % underweight and overweight none. In other words children exclusively fed with breastfed they have better weight and even on the percentile for age compared to those receiving mixed and artificial feeding Keywords: breastfeeding, children’s nutritional status.
