Sammanfattning:Vocabulary is an essential part of English, since it is responsible for developing the linguistic bases for students to learn the language. For this reason, the National English Curriculum established language levels according to the age of the students. Despite this, students do not acquire the necessary level due to the limited vocabulary they have. That is why the objective of this study was to improve vocabulary through the total physical response method application among superior basic education students at a public institution in Loja during the 2023-2024 school year. Proposing the following specific objectives: 1. To validate the effectiveness of the total physical response method in improving vocabulary among basic education students; and 2. To identify superior basic education students’ perceptions about the total physical response method application to improve their vocabulary. To achieve these objectives, the researcher used the mixed method together with an action research model, in which she used three techniques: Testing with a pretest and a posttest for quantitative data, which were analyzed through descriptive statistics; Observation with field notes; and Survey with a questionnaire, the latter techniques for qualitative data, which were examined with thematic analysis. Thus, in this study, an increase in vocabulary knowledge of 2.03 points was demonstrated. At the same time, the motivation of the students when applying this method was evident. In this way, it is concluded that the TPR method had a positive impact on vocabulary learning by integrating body movements, objects, images and storytelling in teaching.
