This alteration occurs when there is a decrease in the hemoglobin concentration and a reduction in the hematocrit value. This retrospective and quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women which were attended at the Basic Hospital of Macará in 2019. The method of indirect observation of medical records of patients who met the inclusion criteria was used. Of the 279 pregnant women analyzed, 12% had anemia, with 79% mild anemia, 18% moderate anemia, and 3% severe anemia. No association was found between anemia and the age of the pregnant women (p = 0,565). The prevalence of anemia in the studied population was less than 12%, with mild anemia being the most frequent type. In addition, maternal age did not influence the presence of anemia in this population |

La anemia gestacional es un problema de salud pública que aumenta la morbimortalidad materno-fetal, y la población adolescente es la más afectada. Esta alteración se produce cuando hay una disminución en la concentración de hemoglobina y una reducción en el valor del hematocrito. Este estudio retrospectivo y transversal cuantitativo se llevó a cabo para determinar la prevalencia de la anemia en mujeres embarazadas atendidas en el Hospital Básico de Macará durante 2019. Se utilizó el método de observación indirecta de historias clínicas de pacientes que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión. De las 279 mujeres embarazadas analizadas, el 12% presentó anemia, siendo el 79% de anemia leve, el 18% de anemia moderada y el 3% de anemia severa. No se encontró asociación entre la anemia y la edad de las gestantes (p = 0,565). La prevalencia de anemia en la población estudiada fue inferior al 12%, siendo la anemia leve el tipo más frecuente.
