| सारांश: | The teaching of mathematics currently faces challenges for both educators and students. Consequently, the implementation of active methodologies is considered fundamental to achieve meaningful learning; recreational mathematics allows the incorporation of playful and recreational activities as the main means to encourage students' interest in learning mathematics. This study aims to examine how recreational mathematics contributes to the enhancement of mathematical competencies among students in Higher Basic Education. Through a documentary research approach, a thorough bibliographic review was conducted to identify, store, organize, and categorize pertinent literature including journal articles and graduate theses. Information retrieval encompassed various scientific databases such as Refreesk, SciELO, Academia, Redalyc, Google Scholar, and university repositories. The collected data were systematically logged and further synthesized into bibliographic and content cards for analysis. The analysis of the information allowed obtaining results that demonstrate the applicability of recreational mathematics and that the resources it provides favor learning, in which the following can be found: activities, programs and workshops involving puzzles, paradoxes and mathematical games as a means of learning. In summary, recreational mathematics emerges as a conducive avenue for promoting active student engagement, enhancing concentration build their own knowledge through fun and entertainment, and cultivating mathematical competencies, ultimately leading to meaningful learning experiences.
