Riassunto:The consumption of psychoactive substances has been present since the beginning of mankind, but the causes that produce it are not known for certain, however, different personal, biological, social and family factors can be taken into account that have some influence on the initiation, development or maintenance of consumption. Personality is the result of temperament, character and influence of the environment that involve feelings, emotions or thoughts that define the behavior pattern; based on this, some studies have confirmed the possible correspondence between personality and the consumption of psychoactive substances, starting from the premise that the influence of this is multicausal. This is why the objective of the present study was to determine the relationship between personality traits and the consumption of different types of psychoactive substances. A non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study design was carried out with the participation of 41 users residing in two centers specialized in the treatment of alcohol and other drugs (CETAD) "Nuevo Renacer" and "Centsadic" in the city of Loja, selected in a non-probabilistic and intentional manner. The instruments used were: Millon's multiaxial clinical inventory-III (MCMI-III) and the screening test for alcohol, tobacco and other substance use (ASSIST). A higher percentage of depressive and antisocial personality traits were identified, the intensive intervention level prevailed, highlighting alcohol and cocaine consumption, by means of Spearman's Rho statistical test a direct but very low correlation was evidenced, which indicates that there would not be a specific personality profile that denotes whether it is prone to consumption, from this a psychological treatment plan is designed aimed at people with psychoactive substance use problems, which require a level of intensive intervention
