סיכום:The present study was conducted to determine the value of the Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) in the diagnosis of prostate disease (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, Prostatitis and Prostate Cancer), while setting the total number Prostatic Specific Antigen exams total and free, diagnostic method and relating numbers in patients with prostatic disease thereby knowing the closely related risk factors affecting the Ecuadorian male population through a descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective and correlational study which was conducted in the General Isidro Ayora Hospital of Loja, period January to June 2014, taking as sample 69 patients who met the criteria above mentioned, all of whom were of mixed race, of which 38 patients were diagnosed with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia which is the pathology most frequently found, whose age range from 70 to 79 years, the majority being of married civil state and primary level of instruction, the highest concentrations of total Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) were evident in patients diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, therefore leading to the conclusion that the Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) is a marker with great value for early detection of prostate disease either benign or malignant and early use should be recommended.
