Резюме:Aging involves a series of psychological, physiological and sociocultural changes, that people are not prepared to face. These changes do not only happen within each individual but it also happens in people who are around them. "Dementia occurs since 60 years old, it is considered to increase progressively with age." (Rodriguez A. 2003). The global prevalence of dementia is estimated at 24.3 million, with future projections that exceed 100 million in 2050. In Latin America, the group of elderly people by 2025 will represent a prevalence of dementia of 6.6%. "(Tegucigalpa M. 2011) Giving a high incidence rate that it will appear in the future to the elderly people, affecting their cognitive and intellectual level. This proposal is developed as a descriptive research in order to identify the prevalence of dementia in the elderly people at "Daniel Alvarez Sanchez" nursing home and to identify organic diseases they suffer; the universe was formed of 50 elderly people; to collect data the medical history and Reisberg’s assessment scale were used. The obtained results indicate that mild dementia predominates; female sex is the most affected; between the age of 65 to 94 years old, widowers and between organic diseases the respiratory ones predominate.
