Beskrivelse
Summary:Psychological well-being in humans, known as eudaimon, generates happiness, which, physically and mentally, allows to live with satisfaction and a high standard of living caused by growth and personal development, resulting in optimal positive functioning. During the university stage, several psychosocial factors are involved that can act directly or indirectly in the promotion or deterioration of mental health, causing an impact in the academic area. Therefore, this research aims to determine the dimensions of psychological well-being in university students in South America, in addition to making known those psychosocial factors involved in such well-being. For this purpose, a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional design, retrospective, documentary and non-experimental methodological approach was used based on the bibliographic review. The research had a population of 254 documents from various databases that reflect scientific production in South America. Through intentional sampling and selection criteria through the “PRISMA 2020” flowchart technique, 17 essential articles were identified. The results determined that autonomy, personal growth and mastery of the environment were the dimensions of psychological well-being that had the greatest prevalence. Additionally, the psychosocial risk factors that threaten this student group were anxiety, depression, substance use, isolation, family dysfunction and academic demotivation, however, those of protection are being part of a religion, family functionality, physical activity and healthy eating. To conclude, the findings indicated great importance from a scientific point of view, since the generation of information within the geographical area not only gave us understanding about the dimensions that constitute well-being, but also about the factors that represent risks and safeguards in the university education process
