| Zusammenfassung: | Adolescence marks the beginning of deep physical and psychological changes for human beings, and represents a vulnerable stage for the occurrence of depression, which has been associated to suicide risk, a contributing factor to mortality rate in teenagers. Taking into account this problem, this investigation has been made, and has been titled as DEPRESSION AND ITS CONNECTION TO SUICIDE RISK IN STUDENTS OF JOSÉ ANTONIO EGUIGUREN LA SALLE HIGH SCHOOL and DANIEL ÁLVAREZ BURNEO HIGH SCHOOL OF THE LOJA’S CITY; its objective is to establish a relationship between depression and suicide risk in first year students from said schools. This work is of descriptive-relational nature, applied to two hundred and five students. The data was collected using the Beck Depression Inventory, the Inventory of Suicidal Orientation in Teenagers (ISO-30) and a personal survey. A greater incidence of Mild Depression has been found, mainly affecting women and sixteen year-teenagers; whereas men and fifteen years-students are the most affected by the Moderate Suicide Risk. The largest percentages of Depression and Suicide Risk demonstrate that Mild Depression is equally associated with Moderate and High Suicide Risk, Moderate Depression is mostly associated with High Suicide Risk, and Severe Depression is exclusively associated with High Suicide Risk. Therefore, this investigation work serves as a source of data about the incidence of Depression and Suicide Risk in teenagers, contributing to enrich the current knowledge about those topics, to achieve a greater interest in the creation of prevention programs to reduce the rates of depression and suicide risk on the teenager demographic group. Key words: Teenagers, Depression, Suicide Risk. |
