In the research, we used grouped cross-sectional data taken from the National Economic Census (CENEC) for the year 2010, the dependent variable is the poverty of each region and the independent variable is the regional economic income measured by the gross value added. Finally, there are policies and programs that seek to increase regional economic income through an environment that provides access to basic services, freedoms and opportunities to reduce poverty in Ecuador. Se considera que uno de los factores que puede incidir en la disminución de la pobreza es el ingreso económico regional. En ese escenario surgió el presente tema de investigación, cuyo objetivo es analizar la relación existente entre el ingreso económico regional y la pobreza en los 218 cantones de Ecuador durante el año 2010, a través de métodos econométricos espaciales. La investigación se realizó utilizando datos agrupados de corte transversal tomados del Censo Nacional Económico (CENEC) del año 2010, la variable dependiente es la pobreza de cada región y la variable independiente es el ingreso económico regional medido por el Valor Agregado Bruto. Debido a la existencia de endogeneidad entre las variables se utilizó el empleo público como variable instrumental, además, se incluyó la tasa de escolaridad, impuestos y tasa de investigación y desarrollo como variables de control para explicar mejor el modelo. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren que el incremento del ingreso económico en los cantones ayuda a la disminución de la pobreza cumpliendo la hipótesis planteada; además, se comprobó la presencia de interacción espacial.
