| סיכום: | The present research work focused on analyzing neglect as a limiting factor in the functional performance of older adults in the parish of Pózul, Cantón Celica, during the period 2024/2025. The study adopted a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, and was based on an exhaustive literature review, structured interviews and questionnaires applied to a sample of 40 older adults, where the results showed that neglect, in its physical, emotional, social and economic dimensions, had a significant impact on the ability of older adults to perform basic and instrumental activities of daily living. Social isolation was identified as one of the main factors of neglect, affecting 47.5% of respondents and limiting their ability to perform daily tasks. Likewise, lack of emotional support and neglect of basic needs were associated with greater functional impairment, especially in activities such as eating, dressing and mobility. On the other hand, neglect in the physical environment and limited opportunities for socialization aggravated older adults' dependence on more complex activities, such as money management and food preparation. Finally, the study concluded that neglect not only affected the emotional well-being of older adults but also contributed to a progressive deterioration of their autonomy and quality of life. Therefore, a social intervention plan was proposed that included the creation of community support networks, the training of caregivers and the promotion of recreational and social activities; these strategies sought to mitigate the effects of neglect and promote active and healthy ageing in the population studied |
