Sažetak:This research work is descriptive transversal .The universe is taken into account for the study is 8228 students; 894 students correspond to the study sample, with 442 men and 452 women. In this research the problem referring to parafunctional habits UNL students face modality studies, male gender was raised; asking ourselves this way aims to determine the prevalence and frequency of these habits. Parafunctional habits cause lesions in the stomatognathic system which if not controlled can affect irreversibly to it, hence the importance of the implementation of this research in which the following results were obtained: the bite of objects with 32% ; acidic substances consumption with 30% ; with 20% onychophagia ; pop bottles with the teeth 14 % ; e, tongue thrusting 4%. The prevalence of parafunctional habits in students of National University of Loja is 0.71 according to point prevalence considered high. In conclusion, the parafunctional habit that most often practiced by students at UNL is bite objects and less frequent tongue thrusting is demonstrating that in the study both prevalence and frequency rates were so high that the frequency of bite objects is 32% and the prevalence is 71 %.
