Sammanfattning:Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are very useful in this technological age because they contribute to the transmission of knowledge to university students and its use aims to influence academic performance improvement. The objective of this researching work is to stablish the relationship between the use of ICTs and the academic performance of nursing students at the Universidad Nacional de Loja. This is a descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional researching work; in which 177 students participated. The data collection technique was carried on through a survey, whose instrument was structured by questions about the use, frequency and mastery of ICTs and a section on academic performance that was obtained from the review of files granted by the competent authority; subsequently, the data were processed and analyzed in SPSS and the results obtained showed that 76.3% of the population are female, 23% male whose age ranges between 19 and 22 years; 79.1% live in the city of Loja and 20.9% come from the province. The types of ICTs most used in academic activities are tools for searching and publishing information, email, chat, social networks and office tools with a joint average of 58.9%; 78.5% of the population uses ICTs from home and 14.7% use them in the university. The 72.9% obtained an academic performance of Very Good and the 16.9% an Outstanding. Finally, the relationship between the use of ICTs and academic performance exist and is reflected in the fact that the majority of the study group obtained a Very Good score, that is, the use of these influences the path to academic excellence.
