Sumario:Anemia is a disease found worldwide especially in underdeveloped countries with more presence in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children under 5 years of age. The children who are not diagnosed and treated early tend to develop cognitive issues and growing delay. In order to determine the prevalence of anemia in children under 5 years of age treated at the Hugo Guillermo González Center in the city of Loja, the frequency was established according to the different age groups, as well as their frequency according to the severity to contrast the treated related to severity in concordance to the Ministry of Public Health (MPH). This descriptive, quantitative study was presented with a sample of 87 children who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were collected from the database of the program "Growing with Our Children" and the medical records of the patients. After the analysis of the information, a prevalence of 63.2% of anemia was obtained, where the more frequently was the mild with a 55.2%. And the moderate with 8%. Here, 5.7% of all children with mild anemia did not receive treatment, 27.6% were given ferrous sulfate and 21.8% were given micronutrients; the 6.9% of the children with moderate anemia received ferrous sulfate and 1.1% received micronutrients. In conclusion, most children diagnosed with anemia received treatment in accordance with the regulations applied by the MPH. Key words: Anemia, children, treatment.
