The present investigation seeks to determine the environmental resilience of the city of Loja to natural and anthropogenic hazards using environmental indicators such as air pollution, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, access to drinking water, natural risks and energy use. In order to fulfill the objectives, descriptive analyses and time series of each indicator were carried out; in addition, the methodology proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to estimate GHG emissions was considered. Subsequently, the data was standardized to obtain an environmental resilience score. The results show that, the main natural risks of the city are floods or landslides, energy use has increased by 9.2% with an average of 619 kWh per capita/year, 1.43 tCO2 eq per capita is emitted, approximately 21% of the population still has no access to water; and, particulate matter (PM10) has an average of 14.7 µg/m3. The integrated resilience score with these indicators shows that Loja has a moderate resilience (-0.41), which suggests that despite being a growing city, it does not present problems that can significantly affect its resilience. The results found place Loja as a resilient city and can be a guide for other regions of Ecuador. It can also strengthen the development of strategies to increase the capacity of cities to deal with potential disasters. La presente investigación busca determinar la resiliencia ambiental de la ciudad de Loja ante peligros de origen natural y antropogénicos usando indicadores ambientales como contaminación del aire, emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI), acceso al agua potable, riesgos naturales y uso de energía. Para cumplir los objetivos se realizó análisis descriptivos y series de tiempo de cada indicador; además, se consideró la metodología propuesta por el Panel Intergubernamental del Cambio Climático (IPCC, por sus siglas en inglés) para estimar las emisiones de GEI, posteriormente se realizó la normalización de los datos para obtener un puntaje de resiliencia ambiental. Los resultados muestran que, los principales riesgos naturales de la ciudad son inundaciones o deslizamientos, el uso de energía se ha incrementado un 9.2% con un promedio de 619 kWh per cápita/anual, se emite 1.43 tCO2 eq percápita, aproximadamente el 21% de la población sigue sin acceso a agua; y, material particulado (PM10) tiene un promedio de 14.7 µg/m3. El puntaje integrado de resiliencia con estos indicadores muestra que Loja tiene una resiliencia moderada (-0.41), lo que sugiere que pese a ser una ciudad en crecimiento, no presenta problemas que puedan incidir significativamente sobre su capacidad resiliente. Los resultados encontrados ubican a Loja como ciudad resiliente y puede ser guía para otras regiones del Ecuador, asimismo puede fortalecer el desarrollo de estrategias para incrementar la capacidad de las ciudades a hacer frente a los potenciales desastres.
