Περίληψη: | Forests fulfil their role as food source to fauna and to birds in a special way. This generates various interactions between plants and birds conditioned by the availability of food offered by forests which are related to the structure and composition of vegetation that show variation in time and space according to environmental conditions. This project aims to characterize the diversity and trophic structure of a community of birds inhabiting the montane forests of the Valladolid parish, Zamora Chinchipe, where three localities with representative forests were selected: Tapichalaca, Los Molinos and Namchima. The diversity and composition of birds in the community was evaluated using the fixed-point count method. Subsequently, with literature review, the taxonomic classification of birds and the identification of their trophic guilds were carried out. Thirteen orders, 34 families, and 187 species of birds were registered. The diversity rates obtained were high (>4) and the classification of food guilds was distributed in 5 and 7 interguilds. The insectivorous guild was the most abundant with 67 species such as the Tirannus melancholicus, followed by the frugivorous guild with 37 species. Some of the species identified have specific or multivariate diets, for example they can only feed on fruits (Penelope barbata), only nectar (Boissonneaua matthewsii), or they can feed from plants and animals (Amblycercus holosericeus). Insectivorous and frugivorous guilds are the most abundant species, representing the most dominant diets and the degree of representativeness varies slightly in this type of ecosystem. This work contributes with ecological information about the Valladolid parish avifauna, such as types of diet of the bird community and presents an analysis on the dynamics of natural systems and the structure of the landscape through seed dispersion. The productive model of the parish (extensive livestock production), suggest a threat to the diversity of birds in wooded areas.
