Riassunto:The present investigation determined the knowledge and maternal practices about prevention and management of Acute Diarrheal Disease in children that attend to the Children Center “Buen Vivir San José” of Catamayo, MIES, Loja. The methodology is descriptive that involves 60 mothers, object of study. The instrument for the gathering of data was the survey. The data was processed through charts. The results show that mothers have a misunderstanding regarding to prevention and management of Acute Diarrheal Disease. Another important result of mothers who participated in the study is contradictory in the practices of prevention indicating that they provide additional food from six months of age, they use measures for the consume of safe water and they clean the bottle adequately, on the other hand they do not feed exclusive breastfeeding until six months of age, they do not develop hand washing or care of the food intake and preparation, risking the health of children. The practices in management are favorable revealing that they provide adequate liquids in diarrheal episodes and they do not suspend the exclusive breastfeeding until six months; thus, helping in this way that the child is being protected, that is why the knowledge about prevention and management of acute diarrheal disease are partially appropriate.
