Izvleček:This investigation aimed to determine the level of knowledge of 25-60 year old patients from the ‘subcentro del salud de Shell’, a hospital in Shell, Pastaza, about the importance of the prevention of cervical cancer. This work it was performed due to the low number of Pap smears performed in comparison to the high rate of women catching the disease. The study was conducted bibliographically, in one place, on site. Data was collected by reviewing medical charts, surveys, and home visits. This research showed that patients within the age range of 34 to 44 years from the ‘subcentro de Shell’ have a 40% range of incidence of cervical cancer according to several studies, and 58% of the population are unaware about prevention of cervical cancer, due to a lack of promotion, broadcasting, and testing of at risk females. It is verified that 58% of the patients of the ‘subcentro de Shell’ are not aware of the risks of cervical cancer, and 70% do not know the requirements for the Pap test. The purpose of this research is to help prevent cervical cancer by promoting the Pap test, to help the quality of life of patients. It was necessary to create an educational manual on the prevention of cervical cancer, and give copies to the obstetrician of the health unit with an aim to promote awareness of the disease to the patients of the ‘subcentro de Shell Key words: Cervical cancer prevention.
