| Итог: | The nutritional status of children is a crucial indicator of health during their school years. A poor nutritional status represents one of the main public health problems worldwide in this population. Among the related factors are the socioeconomic conditions of the family group. The research was intended to determine the socioeconomic level and its influence on the nutritional status of schoolchildren at the Alonso de Mercadillo School in Loja City, in the school year September 2023-June 2024 period. It was a study with a quantitative approach and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 258 schoolchildren who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The informed consent was applied to the legal guardians and assent was given to the 12-year-old children. The instrument used for the legal guardians was the INEC Socioeconomic Stratification Questionnaire, as well as a calibrated and validated balance and measuring rod, were used to measure the weight and height of the children. In the sample studied, the results evidence a predominance of the typical medium socioeconomic level at 39.15%, a normal nutritional status at 52.33%, and a weak negative correlation between the variables investigated (p < 0.05, Spearman's rho: -0.235). It is concluded that approximately 4 out of 10 students present a typical average socioeconomic level, 5 out of 10 students have a normal nutritional status and a very weak relationship is established between the variables. It is recommended that parents allocate resources for a high nutritional content diet for their children, that the educational institution promotes a balanced diet and physical activity, and to future researchers so that they can explore other factors that affect the nutritional status of children |
