Anomalías dentarias en pacientes con labio y paladar hendido. Revisión bibliográfica

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is a congenital craniofacial malformation caused by the partial or complete lack of fusion of the embryonic facial structures during the first weeks of embryonic development. The lack of fusion of these facial structures brings with it a series of malformations that cause a number of consequences, among them dental anomalies, which can be defined as a deviation from dental normality caused by an alteration in the embryological development of the tooth. The present investigation was a bibliographic, descriptive study, by means of which the search, selection, compilation and analysis of information in the different scientific societies was carried out, with the purpose of identifying dental anomalies in patients with LPH and describing their dental management, which was done with the help of search engines such as: Medigraphic, Pubmed, Dialnet, Sciencedirect, in a period between the years 2012-2022, whose universe consisted of 112 scientific articles of which according to the inclusion criteria 31 articles were taken as a sample to be analyzed. After the analysis of the information it was determined that patients with LPH are more prone to develop dental anomalies than the general population, the most frequent and reported in the literature being anomalies of number (agenesis and supernumeraries), size (microdontia) and position (rotations), and in relation to dental management, treatments such as orthopedics and orthodontics are the most frequent to correct anomalies of dental position or alterations of the palate typical of CLP
