| Sažetak: | The functional capacity it is considered as the faculty present in a person to the activities of the daily life no need of supervision, direction or assistance. The investigation nominated “Functional Capacity to develop instrumental and basic activities of the users of the Care Center of the Elderly of IESS Loja” it was proposed to determine this capacity. It was a descriptive-transversal study. The sample was obtained through simple random probabilistic sampling obtaining 184 older adults participants, to whom a survey based was applied on the index of Katz and Lawton and Brody. Between the results obtained, in relation to basic activities independence predominates with the 84,8%; requires assistance 13,6%; and it is dependent on 1,6%. The acidity with higher independence is the use of toilet 90,2% they require more assistance in continence 37,5%. With respect to the realization of the instrumental activities 60.9% are independents; 34.2% require assistance and 4.9% depend on their relatives. Among the activities that present the greatest difficulty, this is the control of their medications with the 39.1% make purchases 47,8% use the phone 44-0%. Finally is concluded that the vast majority of participating users perform so much the basic and instrumentals activities of the daily life in an independent way, a minority percentage requires assistance, a minimum part depends entirely on their relatives.
