| Summary: | The risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus in the next 10 years was determined in people from Espindola- Loja, using the Findrisk Test that uses the variables: age, body mass index, abdominal perimeter, habitual physical activity, consumption of fruits and vegetables, history of hyperglycemia and family history. A descriptive, quantitative cross-sectional study was realized in 345 non-diabetic persons between 20 and 64 years of age, using random selection in which the survey will be applied to the family boss or in case of absence to one of the relatives. The main objective is to investigate the 10-year risk to develop diabetes type 2 through the application of the Findrisk test and later the elaboration of a prevention approach in the population of Espindola. Patients living in Espindola were evaluated. The sample was calculated using the formula: obtaining a significant sample of 345 people, the size and the weight were obtained with a balance and tallimeter calibrated. The results were processed using tables and graphs in Microsoft Excel and Power Point. Obtaining as a results: 47% presented low risk (<7 points), 35% slightly elevated risk (7-11 points), 12% moderate risk (12-14 points), 6% ), and very high risk 0.7%. The predominant risk factor is the high abdominal perimeter with 26%, high body mass index with 22% and non-consumption of fruits and vegetables daily with 21%. It was concluded that screening by the present test is a reliable tool for detection of undiagnosed diabetes and the prediction of it. KEYWORDS: Diabetes mellitus, Findrisk test, Risk factor |
