| Summary: | The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the level of satisfaction of users of the open- air markets in the western rural parishes: Chantaco, Chuquiribamba, El Cisne, Taquil, Santiago, San Lucas, Jimbilla and Gualel. These open-air markets are considered fundamental in terms of the economic development of many families due to the sale and consumption of products at affordable prices. To develop this research, a mixed approach was adopted. On one hand, a qualitative approach was applied to understand the nature and purpose of open-air markets through an exhaustive analysis of the organization an operating regulations, as well as the necessary documentary analysis that determined the appropriate methodology to identify satisfaction levels. On the other hand, a quantitative approach was used to collect analyze data through surveys were designed based on the quality dimensions proposed by Bob E. Hayes, from which 9 dimensions were considered for this study with total of 35 items. This was based on cases that were already applied in open-air markets in Chile, as well as on the experience of the research team. The results of the research revealed a high level of user acceptance regarding the service offered by open-air markets since satisfaction was identified in 29 of the proposed items. While, in the remaining 6 items, dissatisfaction values were obtained. In response to these needs, a plan that includes strategies to improve the open-air markets under study was proposed. These strategies were designed to address the aforementioned aspects and to promote a safer, cleaner and more attractive environment for open-air markets users, which will contribute to the sustainable development of these rural communities. |
