Crynodeb:Children nutrition is of fundamental importance, their physical, mental and psychosocial development depends of it. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child points out that breastfed infants and children have the good nutrition right, starting with exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months old and an adequate ablation. The research purpose was to identify protection and risk factors and its relationship with the beginning of the complementary alimentation in children of 1 to 3 years from Good Living Children Centers of Zone 7. The study was prospective, descriptive, analytic and transversal; Target population was about 5.032 children from Good Living Centers from Zone 7; taking a sample of 423 children; previous informed allow, a summary was applied to mothers and tutors. In the statistical analysis, SPSS v.16 software was used with dichotomy variables, Chi2 and V. Cramer y Odds Ratio test were carried out; with non-significant statistical values in relation to the associative factors described in this investigation. Concluding, the beginning of complementary alimentation does not have significant statistical relationship with children life condition, familiar ontogenesis and nutritional state; Nevertheless, exclusive breastfeeding until six months old is vital, due that the study was performed in institutionalized places (Good Living Children Centers).
