| Résumé: | The Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is associated with five-times increase in the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus 2 (DM2) and two and three times in Cardiovascular Disease, it has become a health problem that represents large costs in the state budget. Given the scarce local studies in at-risk populations, we sought to identify the presence of MS and the risk of DM2 in a simple manner; in addition, to establish the relationship between them. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted, in the children of the families of the diabetic club "Amigos Dulces", taking a sample of 100 people who met the inclusion criteria, using a data collection sheet, chemical analysis and the Findrisc test, the obtained information was processed in Excel and the statistical program SPSS. It was determined that 40% (n = 40) had MS, being higher in women with 43% (n = 23), finding abdominal obesity (100%), hypertension (75%) and decreased HDL cholesterol (53 %) as the most frequently components. The risk of DM2 was high (40%), in both men and women, it is more noticeable after 45 years (37.5%) (n = 15), and in both sexes the risk is increasing when people get older. People who had MS had a high risk for DM2, which is higher in the female gender (25%). It is necessary to work in health policies that encourage healthy eating habits and the practice of regular physical activity, especially in groups with multiple risk factors.
