Sumari:To determine the level of knowledge about vulvovaginitis and the practice of preventive measures by the mothers of the prepubertal girls in ‘EduvigesPoralet’ school, during the period 2012-2013. The present investigation is descriptive, transversal and retrospective. The population of the study was conformed by the mothers of the girls whose ages range from 8 to 11 years old in the ‘EduvigesPortalet’ Fiscomisional School during the 2012-2013 school year, which involved a total number of 70 people. The data collection was achieved by using the Survey by Interview. The resulting data were tabulated in order to be later analyzed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Within the knowledge presented by the mothers about the concept of vulvovaginits, it can be demonstrated that 48% of the subjects don’t know anything about the pathology or have a wrong concept of it. The relation between the level of schooling and the preventive measures taken by the mothers concerning vulvovaginitis, are dependent, we can observe that mothers with a higher level of education gave specific and accurate preventive recommendations to their daughters. A low knowledge of the possible measures of prevention of vulvovaginitis was presented, 36% of the mothers don’t know how to properly clean the genial areas, and also, 37% of the mothers indicated they don’t know any preventive measures at all. 34% of the subjects has never received information about vulvovaginitis, which has a dependent relation with the number of preventive measures they apply. This research project was able to analyze the level of knowledge that the mothers of scholar girls about vulvovaginitis, proving that the signs, symptoms and causes that are known about the pathology are little, wrong or non-existent; therefore, making the preventive measures taken by the mothers insufficient confirming the deficient information existing about the pathology.
