Summary:Depression and anxiety are common mental disorders that are often underdiagnosed, especially in people with disabilities where there is scarce scientific literature and few statistical data at global and national level. This study arises from the need to obtain real data on the incidence of these disorders and to know their reality. The purpose of the present research was to identify the presence of depression and anxiety, in addition, to know the type of disability according to age group and sex in adults with disabilities attending physiatry at Isidro Ayora General Hospital - Loja in order to establish the relationship between these variables. A quantitative cross-sectional cohort approach was applied, with a non-probabilistic sample of 57 participants, made up of 59.65% male and 40.35% female, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and who used the Patient Health Questionnaire9 and General Anxiety Disorder-7 questionnaires. A high prevalence of depression 10.53% and mild anxiety 14.04% was obtained in mature adults; the predominant disability was physical disability 40.35% in men aged 40 to 64 years. There was a greater relationship between mild depression 31.58%; moderate anxiety 14.04% and physical disability, showing a statistically significant association between both variables with p<0.05. Depression and anxiety are mostly present in physical disability. Therefore, the risk of mental disorders existing in the population with this disability should be taken into account. Mature adult women showed more severe degrees of depression and anxiety despite being a smaller population
