Prevalencia de violencia de género en el adulto mayor en el cantón Catamayo

Gender violence is a phenomenon that has remained present in our society, constituting a manifestation of inequality and power relations of men over women, the United Nations defines it as a violation of human rights, recognizing it as a real public health problem. In this context, a quantitative study was conducted, with a descriptive-cross-sectional design, with the objective of analyzing the prevalence of gender violence in the elderly and contributing to the baseline of the project "Asymmetry of Power in the Catamayo canton" of the National University of Loja. The methodology employed included the application of 114 surveys directed to older adults residing in the aforementioned canton. The results revealed that, of the majority of affected older adults, 53.5% (n=61) are women, ranging from 75 to 84 years old, 31.5% are divorced, 52.6% have completed primary school, urban residents, mestizo ethnicity, 43.8% are engaged in household chores and only 26.3% are affiliated to the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security. In addition, it was found that in Catamayo canton there is gender violence against the elderly in 54.3%, being psychological violence with 19.2% the most frequent, emphasizing that the area where this phenomenon is triggered is the home with 30.7%, where the main aggressor is the partner
