Тойм:This research paper analyses the connections between literacy and the development of critical thinking in sixth-grade students from the Luis Alfredo Samaniego Arteaga School in Catamayo, Loja, during 2023. The objectives are divided into three levels: first, to identify literacy strategies that impact the progress of critical thinking skills; second, to design a pedagogical plan based on those strategies to promote the development of critical thinking; and third, to evaluate the effectiveness of this plan in promoting critical thinking. The methodology, which has a descriptive approach and non-experimental design, employs a mixed perspective with scientific, analytical, synthetic, inductive and descriptive methods. Data collection techniques include pre- and post-assessments, as well as interviews, using structured pre- and post-assessment questionnaires. The sample comprises 34 students and one teacher. The research process includes stages such as initial diagnosis, theoretical review, analysis and interpretation of data, conclusions, recommendations and creation of a pedagogical proposal based on literacy. This plan is implemented and evaluated with a subsequent questionnaire, the results of which show students’ improvements in critical thinking. Most students successfully assimilate and apply the acquired knowledge and skills, highlighting the effectiveness of literacy strategies in this educational context. The research lays the foundations for future studies and educational interventions, seeking to enrich the quality and relevance of learning in primary education. The intimate relationship between literacy and critical thinking highlights the importance of pedagogical approaches that promote deep and meaningful cognitive skills, contributing to the comprehensive and lasting formation of students.
