Summary:In Ecuador, during the first months of the pandemic, an average of 12,613 tons/day of solid waste was registered, of which about 1,388 tons belong to plastic waste, hence this study tries to examine the relationship of COVID-19 and the consumption of plastics in the homes of the city of Loja during the pandemic, through statistical analyses such as bar plots, graphs and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), taking into consideration the theory of planned/planned behavior (TPB). The results show us that environmental awareness (ß=-0.419; p=0.038) and COVID-19, both in the basic model (ß=0.773; p=0.000) as in the end (ß=0.673; p=0.003), affects and is significant in the demand for plastics of households in the city of Loja, while the variable social norms (ß=0.234; p=0.341) does not prove to have a considerable impact or be significant, so if less strict restrictive policies were proposed during the pandemic, the use of reusable personal protective equipment (PPE) was encouraged and campaigns that motivate better environmental awareness were promoted, the demand for plastics in the city of Loja would have been mitigated
